She has led efforts to negotiate national and state-level professional organization membership discounts for teammates, which has allowed Advocate Health to be one of the first to achieve such agreements.
Her leadership has been instrumental in the professional development of countless nurse leaders and, oftentimes, advocated for them when they were not at the table. Many of these leaders have gone on to serve as Chief Nursing Officers, executive leaders, and formal leaders in their organization. She never turns down a mentee or student to support advancing their education. Dr. Mook also teaches at the University of Alabama at the doctoral level and loves to mentor leaders and students. Her commitment to reducing workplace violence is significant. Dr. Mook's advocacy for a safer working environment ensures that nurses can focus on providing the highest quality of care to their patients. She has been the executive sponsor for Code Lavendar, supporting teammates' well-being across the enterprise.
In her previous legacy organizational leadership role, she was the senior executive sponsor for establishing and advancing the first system-wide ANCC Magnet and Pathway to Excellence portfolio, where all sites committed to achieving designation within a defined period. Although she no longer oversees this work, today over 60 percent of those sites have achieved designation. During one of the most challenging periods in modern healthcare history, Dr. Mook demonstrated visionary leadership, unwavering commitment, and rapid innovation that transformed nursing care delivery across Advocate Health.
In the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic, when hospitals were overwhelmed and bedside nurses faced unprecedented strain, Patricia and her team set up a fully operational Virtual Nursing program within just 10 days. This initiative was not only a logistical feat, but it was also a compassionate response to a crisis that prioritized both nurse well-being and patient connection. This model ensured that patients, many isolated due to infection protocols, received increased communication and emotional support from nurses, while bedside teams were relieved of basic tasks, allowing them to focus on the acute care needs of their patients. This program has grown to have international interest from across the globe, including Singapore, England, and Switzerland. This is a true testament to her leadership and ability to transform healthcare across the globe by fully integrating a care delivery model that had never been done before.
Dr. Mook has always been a transformational executive. She consistently made herself available to graduate students and postmaster's graduate students to share her wealth of knowledge. Additionally, she made herself visible to the teams that she supported either by frequent rounds or by her ‘Moments with Mook’ meetings, where she would share strategic initiatives, wins, and celebrations, and offered time for questions and answers. Truly making her an influential leader to all.
Through professional organizations, Dr. Mook's leadership has also been instrumental in national advocacy, and she is known to inspire other nurses to be involved and use their voice to influence change. She is an active member of AONL and NCONL, but does not stop there. She is not only a member but a leader, often bringing other leaders along the way to support the work and their development. Dr. Mook is widely recognized as a transformational leader in the nursing community. Her leadership has earned her numerous accolades, and she is a champion of diversity, equity, and inclusion within the nursing profession.
