There is nobody out there like Patty Bowling!
Patty has taken on not only her role as director but also as our department manager for the past eight months. I am continually amazed at how gracefully she balances the many roles she is trying to fill while also making herself available to her staff. Patty has an open-door policy and doesn’t hesitate to stop what she is doing to give her full attention to a team member when needed. I have personally been blessed with her support as I have brought both personal and work issues to her.

Patty truly cares about her team and wants the best for them. I have seen her help one of my coworkers as they are searching for a new position within the organization that will take advantage of their new degree. I have watched her support multiple coworkers struggling to support family members with cancer. I have watched her pour into team members needing extra support as they learn new roles in our department.

Patty is the epitome of positivity. She can find the bright side to everything which is crucial in the operating room environment. Her communication skills are top-notch, and she handles all types of situations with skill and finesse. Patty has made so many positive changes for our department in this short time filling in as manager! She has always been a fabulous support as our director, but when she stepped in to cover the managerial responsibilities as well, she didn’t hesitate to look for gaps and fix them. She is our biggest cheerleader!

Patty sees the potential in her team members and helps each of us see it in ourselves and strives to reach it. She has implemented new responsibilities for our ORA’s and encourages them as they learn new skills. As a department, I can say that we are grateful for Patty and all of her support.

Personally, Patty is filling in the manager’s role, while keeping up on all of her director’s responsibilities, which has given me a new spark for my job. Patty has a way of making you feel needed and appreciated at work. She recognizes her team for their accomplishments, and for me, that means a lot.

Too often it feels like those who go above and beyond go unnoticed. Patty notices. Patty also gives her team members the autonomy to make decisions and implement changes within the department. She encourages learning and growth. She encourages us to ask questions and seek out information.

Patty took a unit that was really struggling, a unit that was comprised of 50% travelers, and created a team. She has developed a culture that encourages and supports one another. She has led by example every step of the way. While her time in the manager’s role is only temporary, we are so lucky to have her as our director. We never question if Patty has our backs. We never question if she cares. She makes a difference in the lives of the employees on the second floor every day! There is nobody out there like Patty Bowling!
