I am honored to nominate Patricia Borchert for the DAISY Award in recognition of her unwavering compassion, professionalism, and the extraordinary care she provides every day at Columbine West Health & Rehab. Patricia consistently goes above and beyond for our residents. She treats everyone with kindness, dignity, and respect, creating a sense of trust and comfort in even the most challenging moments. She frequently stays late to help with admissions, making sure every new resident is cared for, settled, and never made to feel like a burden. She always takes the time to ensure no detail is overlooked and that families feel supported during transitions.
She is also an incredible team player. Patricia is always helping staff on the floor with resident care – without ever being asked. Whether it’s lending a hand during busy times or simply offering support to a colleague, she leads with humility and a strong sense of teamwork. Her willingness to step in wherever she’s needed lifts morale and sets the tone for a collaborative, resident-focused environment.
Beyond her daily dedication, Patricia has had a profound impact on my own nursing journey. When I was working as a CNA on the night shift, Patricia was the nurse I worked alongside. One night, we had a resident fall and break her femur – it was a traumatic and overwhelming experience. The resident was hard of hearing, had severe dementia, and was understandably panicked. I remember feeling scared and unsure of how to help. But Patricia stepped in with calm, confidence, and extraordinary compassion. She comforted the resident with such grace and patience, meeting her where she was, both emotionally and cognitively. Watching Patricia in that moment – how she handled such a difficult situation with empathy and skill – left a lasting impression on me. It was one of the key moments that inspired me to pursue my nursing career.
