February 2026 Honoree
Palo Wright, BSN, RN
I am honored to nominate Nurse Palo Wright for the DAISY Award in recognition of her extraordinary dedication, compassion, and unwavering commitment to our pediatric patients and team at Harlem Hospital. As Paulo prepares for her well-earned retirement, it is impossible to measure the depth of her impact over the many years she has devoted to nursing here in Harlem. She hasn't simply worked on the pediatric floor; she's shaped it. Generations of families have felt her steady presence during some of the most vulnerable moments of their lives.
Palo embodies what it means to be a pediatric nurse. She approaches every child with gentleness, patience, and respect, always getting down to their level, explaining procedures in ways they can understand, and offering comfort that eases fear before a single medication is administered. Parents often say they feel safe when Paulo cares for their child. She has an extraordinary ability to translate complex medical information into reassurance, empowering families while never minimizing their concerns.
Her compassion matches her clinical excellence. Paulo’s assessments are thorough, her critical thinking is sharp, and her advocacy for her patients is unwavering. She is often the first to notice subtle changes in a child’s condition and the first to speak up to ensure timely intervention. She models vigilance and accountability in ways that elevate the entire team.
Equally remarkable is how she treats her colleagues. Paulo is a mentor, a steady guide, and a source of encouragement for new nurses entering pediatrics. She shares her knowledge generously and corrects with kindness. During high-stress shifts, she stays calm and solution-focused, helping de-escalate tense situations and maintain a supportive team environment. Her presence has created a culture of respect, collaboration, and excellence on our unit.
What sets Paulo apart is her heart. She remembers former patients, celebrates their milestones, and carries their stories with her. She has given not just years, but a lifetime of service to this community. Her career reflects integrity, humility, and profound compassion values that define the spirit of The DAISY Award.
As her leader, I can say without hesitation that Paulo Wright represents the very best of nursing. Her legacy will continue long after her retirement through the countless lives she has touched patients, families, and colleagues alike. She deserves this recognition, and it would be a fitting tribute to a career dedicated to healing, advocacy, and love for the children of Harlem.
