Thanks to him, I would feel supported, understood, comfortable, and reassured that I was healing very well
Although I have been struggling with my health this year, this hospital visit was unexpected. It turned out I had to get emergency life-or-death surgery because of an infection in my lower belly. As mentioned, I have been hospitalized several times before this, but nothing was as frightening as this one time. It wasn’t just a scary situation for me, but for my family as well. After this surgery, I had to get wound care every day and eventually every other day. The first day of my wound care was when I met Ozzy. He was introduced to me and was told that from now he would be the one taking care of my wound. That first day of my wound care was the most painful and stressful, as I had never experienced anything similar. But since day one, Ozzy made me feel safe and taken care of. He would try to make conversation and somehow distract me from what I was feeling. Every day, he would ask me how I was doing and reassure me that each day it would get better. He wasn’t just kind with me, but with my mother. My mother stayed by my side since day one. My mother would be so worried during my stay, and Ozzy would make sure she was comfortable and calm. Every single time he would do wound care on me, he would find ways to ease my pain, such as making sure I got my pain medication beforehand and asking consistently how I was feeling throughout the dressing change. After two weeks, I was discharged, but with a wound vac. Unfortunately, I ended up in the hospital again after a week. Once again, Ozzy continued my wound care. I was very relieved and thankful that I got Ozzy again. After returning to the hospital, I unfortunately went through traumatizing events that made me end up in the ICU. During this time, Ozzy demonstrated the caring and outstanding nurse he is. Thanks to him, I would feel supported, understood, comfortable, and reassured that I was healing very well, all thanks to his care. As I mentioned, I have been in the hospital on other occasions, but I had never felt the outstanding support and patience of a nurse like Ozzy. I couldn’t have asked for a better nurse.
