During our father’s final days in the Neurology ICU, Orion provided the kind of care that goes far beyond medical skill; it was deeply human, compassionate, and full of heart. Even though our father suffered a major stroke and was unable to communicate, Orion made sure he was surrounded by comfort and dignity every step of the way.

Orion took the time to learn about who our father was beyond his diagnosis. She found ways to incorporate the things our dad loved most, offering to swab his mouth with coffee and adding nicotine patches, which allowed him to "smoke" one last cigarette. We know this helped make him feel at peace. She ensured that his final hours reflected his life and his personality, and those gestures meant everything to us.

What stood out most was Orion’s calm presence and genuine empathy. She spoke to our father with respect, explaining every step of care, even when our dad could no longer respond. She made sure our family understood what was happening, answering every question with patience and compassion. She quickly helped us submit our FMLA forms and made a tireless effort to try to transport him to a hospice facility closer to home, even though he progressed too quickly for that to happen.

Orion didn't just care for our father, but our whole family as well. In an incredibly difficult time, Orion made sure our father’s last moments were filled with love and respect. Her kindness brought us comfort and peace, and we will always be grateful for the compassion she showed our family. Orion is a true example of what nursing is all about.
