‌Oralia exemplifies everything a nurse should be—passionate, kind, authentic, and a relentless patient advocate. Her presence in our department is a gift to both patients and colleagues alike.‌
In the short time that I have known Oralia, I have grown to admire and look up to her. She works tirelessly to ensure the improvement of our department. Oralia works to improve the knowledge and understanding of policy, procedures, assessments, and patient care from experienced nurses, ERT, new nurses, and physicians. She is constantly asking the why behind the why, as well as constantly looking to expand her knowledge. As a nurse, she always goes above and beyond to provide excellent patient care, not only for her patients but also for patients throughout the department. Anytime she is asked to assist, she never hesitates to be resourceful.

In my opinion, Oralia embodies the many fundamental nursing principles: beneficence, fidelity, veracity, accountability and non-maleficence. I could continue on and on, but I believe this gives a general idea of why I strongly believe that Oralia Hermosillo deserving of the DAISY Award.

‌Oralia exemplifies everything a nurse should be—passionate, kind, authentic, and a relentless patient advocate. Her presence in our department is a gift to both patients and colleagues alike.‌

One of our physicians recalls a powerful moment early in his career that truly captures Oralia’s impact. A 22-year-old female patient was experiencing an obstetric emergency. Oralia, with her seasoned instincts, brought the doctor to the bedside and said, 'She is not doing well—I need you to look at her.' Moments later, the patient went into cardiac arrest. Thanks to Oralia’s swift action, clinical expertise, and calm leadership, she and the doctor were able to resuscitate the patient, not once, but through two additional codes. That patient survived and continues to live a beautiful life today. The doctor has never forgotten that day and remains forever grateful to Oralia. In his words, 'She is the kind of nurse we tell residents about.'

Oralia is a cornerstone of our unit and a source of wealth of knowledge. She consistently goes above and beyond—always the first to volunteer for department improvement projects and a dedicated mentor to our new graduates and trauma nurses. Her willingness to educate, support, and advocate reflects the highest standards of nursing.

This nomination is not just deserved—it is long overdue. Oralia's commitment to excellence and compassion truly embodies the spirit of the DAISY Award.
