Physically, mentally, and emotionally, I was in a difficult place, but her compassion and attentiveness made all the difference.
As a nurse myself, I understand the challenges of providing care, and it’s not easy to be on the receiving end of care. However, when I met Olivia on January 13, 2025, after undergoing a sleeve gastrectomy, she made an immediate and profound impact on my recovery. Physically, mentally, and emotionally, I was in a difficult place, but her compassion and attentiveness made all the difference.
Despite the challenges of my condition, she never once made me feel like I was adding stress to her busy workload. Whenever I was nauseous or vomiting, she stayed by my side, offering comfort and ensuring my dignity was maintained. Her bedside manner was nothing short of remarkable, and I felt heard and cared for in every interaction.
She didn’t just stop at offering physical care. She took the time to educate and empower me, persuading me to get up and walk around even when I didn’t want to. Through education and motivation, she inspired me to take my health into my own hands, and this had a significant impact on my recovery.
By the next day, I showed major improvement, and her continued care made a world of difference. When I revealed to her that I, too, am a nurse, she didn’t change anything about the quality of care she provided. This speaks volumes about her professionalism and her unwavering dedication to providing the best possible care for all patients, regardless of their background.
Even at my discharge, she continued to guide me with detailed instructions and incorporated holistic care into my treatment. She motivated me to keep up the good work after leaving the hospital, showing that her commitment didn’t end with my discharge. Olivia's unwavering compassion, professionalism, and ability to treat patients with both respect and empathy make her the embodiment of what it means to be a DAISY Nurse.
