Olivia Scott is a nurse who typically works a steady night shift at 10 North. She is working on her MSN in leadership and on Thursday morning was driving in to do some practicum hours with me. She was supposed to meet in my office at 8am and arrived a few minutes late. She apologized and said that she had to take a patient to the ED. I asked her what happened and she told me this story..... As she was getting off the highway, she noticed a couple that looked to be in distress on the side of the road and pulled off. They told her that they were on their way to Presby for the husband to have a nerve block. The husband, who has a cardiac history, was having chest pain and had to pull over. 911 was activated, and they were waiting for EMS. Olivia took one look and said we need to get to the ED right now and escorted them. She did not get their name. The patient ended up in the cath lab, on ECMO, and in CTICU. Olivia's action saved his life. They got the opportunity to meet the next evening.
