A patient's family member was having chest pains, and the family member was trying to locate the ER to take her by wheelchair. Olivia was near the patient's room (she was not their nurse) and asked to take them a quicker way.

When en route to the ED, the patient slumped over in the wheelchair. Olivia performed a pulse check and found the patient had a weak pulse. Olivia and the family member grabbed the patient and quickly carried her to the ED. Outside the ED, the patient lost her pulse, and Olivia began CPR until help arrived.

I was called by the house supervisor, a code team member, as well as the MD caring for the patient in the ICU. Had she not been there and been so quick to action, the patient would have died. Not only did Olivia act as a nurse, but she stayed with the patient and the family while the ED worked on the patient.

This was not her patient, but she took the time to help someone in need, which made her truly heroic. Olivia’s kindness, quick thinking, and exceptional clinical skills were critical in this emergency. Her rapid response and decisive actions were instrumental in saving this patient’s life.
