I believe Olivia Hill truly embodies what the DAISY Award stands for. Olivia was the nurse for my dad during a very emotional time. Olivia took her time to explain my dad’s disease process in a way we could understand. She printed out an information sheet about his illness and procedures. At one point, my dad refused medication because he did not understand what it was for. Again, Olivia came and explained the medication in a way my dad could understand. He began taking the medication, and it helped with his symptoms.

Olivia was with us again when we found out there was nothing else we could do medically for my dad. We placed Dad in hospice. Olivia was there and treated us like family during an emotionally overwhelming and devastating time. From that day forward, we developed a personal connection that gave us immense comfort. Olivia also advocated for my father to receive the pain meds needed to keep him comfortable. Olivia’s compassion, communication, nursing expertise, and advocacy stood out to me, my dad, and my family. I thank her from the bottom of my heart for making Dad’s last days memorable!
