September 2026 Honoree
Olivia Frerichs, BSN, RN
Olivia is the perfect example of what nursing should be: knowledgeable, compassionate, attentive, and truly passionate about caring for her patients and their families. One thing that immediately stood out was her dedication to getting every detail right. Our daughter required thickened formula, and Olivia was the only nurse who could consistently get it to the correct thickness. She took the time to measure everything carefully and made sure it was accurate every time. She set the standard, and it gave us so much confidence knowing our daughter was in her care.
Our daughter’s diapers needed to be weighed; we never had a diaper sitting in the bathroom waiting to be weighed when Olivia was our nurse. Olivia didn’t just provide excellent medical care; she genuinely cared about our daughter and us as parents. She treated us like partners in our daughter’s care and never made us feel like our questions or worries were unimportant. What touched us most was how much she cared about our entire family. We have two other young children at home (one being our daughter’s twin), and Olivia advocated for us by reminding the team that we needed a care plan that would be simple and realistic for our family to manage,
She wasn’t only looking out for our daughter; she was looking out for us as parents. She saw us as a whole family, not just a patient. When you’re in the hospital with your child, you quickly learn that the little things matter. The nurse who remembers every detail, listens without rushing, advocates for your family, and genuinely cares can make all the difference. That is exactly who Olivia is.
