His calm presence, sincere compassion, and joyful demeanor were evident in everything he did.
Last April, I visited a dear friend who had been admitted for an extended period at Fort Sanders Regional. During our conversation, he lit up as he spoke about a nurse who had cared for him one particular night. That nurse was Nino. What stood out in my friend's story was how deeply he felt heard and valued. He said, someone finally listened to me. After being hospitalized for so long, he longed for connection not just medical care, but human care. That night, Nino took time to sit beside him, not just to administer medications, but to listen. They talked about life, shared stories, and even bonded over music. That genuine connection turned a routine night into a meaningful memory. When I met Nino that same evening, I understood immediately what my friend meant. Nino entered the room with a warm smile, greeted us with respect, and patiently answered our many questions. His calm presence, sincere compassion, and joyful demeanor were evident in everything he did. Despite my friend being a notoriously difficult IV stick, Nino found a vein on the first attempt and delivered his medication right on time. It wasn't just clinical skill, it was excellence with empathy. He clearly takes pride in his work and treats his patients like people, not just cases. Even though Nino only cared for my friend that one night, the impact he made was powerful. His passion for his job, as well as his dedication and positive attitude, were all on display. More than that, he reminded my friend that he mattered. Thank you, Nino, for being more than a nurse that night, for being a light. I hope many more patients get to experience the care, comfort, and kindness you so naturally give.
