But what truly set Nina apart were the confidence she exuded and her steady and delicate hands. She showcased both in everything she did.
Nurse Nina is a brilliant ray of sunshine and a consummate professional who earned my gratitude and deserves formal recognition. Throughout her shift, she treated me with the utmost care and empathy. Starting off, she led a cohesive team that transferred me from the recovery room’s gurney to PCCU bed so smoothly that the experience was 100% painless for me and without even a minor jostle. I’ve had some rough & painful transfers in the past!
She subsequently took the initiative to relieve my cough, nausea, and “starvation” with cough drops, ginger ale, and light snacks (to tide me over until dinner could arrive). I realize the preceding steps are probably considered standard procedure. But what truly set Nina apart were the confidence she exuded and her steady and delicate hands. She showcased both in everything she did, especially in removing my Foley catheter, attending to my IV site and groin lesions, and other hands-on treatments.
Moreover, she applied her professional knowledge/experience with ablation patients to relay anecdotes that very effectively assuaged my concerns over the chest pain I was enduring.
Most impressive, though, were her personality and demeanor. Even as her 12-hour shift neared its end, Nina remained energetic, effervescent, positive, friendly, smiling, empathic, and extremely helpful— impeccable bedside manner! Her attitude alone made me feel better—both physically and emotionally.
Add to that her obvious commitment to providing a superb level of nursing care with seeming effortlessness. Nina is the best nurse I’ve encountered in my many hospital stays—whether as a patient or as the loved one of a patient.
Nina is the perfect front-line ambassador for world-class care. I actually feel as though I was cared for by a dear friend or family member, rather than “just” hospital staff. The bottom line is Nina makes Johns Hopkins look great!
