From the very first morning of my daughter's hospital stay, Nicole showed the kind of compassion, professionalism, & humanity that makes a difference in a patient's care. S was in significant discomfort from her NG tube and kept expressing pain. Rather than brushing her off, Nicole truly listened. She took S's pain seriously and reached out to the doctor right away to ask about what could be given to relieve it and stayed on top of it until she was more comfortable. Nicole was always honest and transparent, never giving false hope, but always delivering information with gentleness and care. S quickly learned that she could trust Nicole completely. That trust made an enormous difference in her comfort and emotional well-being during an especially vulnerable time. Nicole also went beyond her clinical role to make S feel seen and cared for as a person. She made time to talk with her, make her laugh, and to find small ways to make her feel more at home in the hospital. As a parent, I cannot express the comfort it brought me to see someone caring for my daughter with such empathy and diligence. She noticed every detail, communicated clearly, and acknowledged my concerns to advocate for S's meds without hesitation. Her compassion and dedication transformed a frightening hospital experience into one filled with trust, safety, and hope. She is the embodiment of what the DAISY Award represents - clinical excellence combined with extraordinary kindness. I will be forever grateful for the care and heart Nicole showed my daughter.
