Nick has worked to create a team that has gone over 90 days without a fall, led the initiative on teaching patients side effects, and increased his Press Ganey scores.
Nick came to MRMC a little over nine months ago and has already made an impact as a leader. Nick has taken the role of Neuro Director to heart and worked to grow a unit of high-quality, compassionate care, all with amazing results. He is the Chair for the market’s patient experience committee and a mentor to one of our new directors.
Over the past few months, Nick has worked to create a team that has gone over 90 days without a fall, led the initiative on teaching patients side effects, and increased his Press Ganey scores. Nick has established a unit of accountability. Neuro culture consists of responding quickly to call lights and fall prevention techniques in place.
Five days a week, he is here early in the morning to meet with his team and has carved out time daily to ensure his team has access to him. By doing this, his team has been able to share ideas, concerns, and feel like they are a part of the success Neuro has been experiencing. Nick works to keep his team informed and practices transparency by sending out bi-weekly information emails and conducting staff meetings every other month. Any information that is important to his team or the care of patients, Nick is the first to get the information out to the team.
Besides being there for his Neuro team, Nick has been a huge asset to his fellow directors and senior nurse leaders. Assisting in the online development of our Quality Checklist, taking lead for side effects education form and willing to be a unit to test any new idea that will increase the quality of care provided to patients.
As Nick’s boss, I could not ask for a better leader. He embodies what a leader needs to be: open, honest, compassionate, and works to get results that empower his team and make our patients feel like they are getting the highest quality care when they come to the MRMC Neuro unit.
