The Neuroscience Telemetry Unit exemplifies every aspect of our mission and core values. They consistently demonstrate human dignity by treating every patient, family member, and colleague with respect and inclusiveness, ensuring that every interaction upholds the sacredness of life. Their commitment to integrity is seen through their ethical practice and transparent communication, fostering a culture where team members hold each other accountable and work collaboratively toward shared goals. A key example of the team's excellence is their achievement in clinical outcomes.
In 2024, despite not being a comprehensive stroke center, the NSTU team’s innovative and patient-centered practices propelled them to become the #5 top stroke center in Virginia, according to Healthgrades. This remarkable accomplishment is a testament to their expert clinical skills and the seamless integration of teamwork into daily operations. In addition to clinical excellence, the NSTU team has consistently demonstrated exceptional compassion. Through daily huddles, a proactive bedside strategy, and participation in Shared Governance, they have cultivated an environment where every member is empowered to contribute ideas and support one another, regardless of title. This proactive approach has led to significant improvements in patient safety, as evidenced by more than 4 consecutive years without a single hospital-acquired injury.
The team’s dedication to stewardship is also apparent in their impressive personnel metrics. By maintaining a turnover rate of less than 5% year-over-year from 2023 to 2024 and again from 2024 to 2025, the NSTU team has not only preserved valuable institutional knowledge but also created an environment where staff feel valued and motivated.
Furthermore, the team’s operational excellence was recognized with the Pillar of Excellence Awards in 2024 for Quality, highlighting their initiatives in fall prevention and decreased morbidity, and for Growth and Innovation, notably in reducing length of stay (LOS) and improving excess days per case (EDPC). Equally impressive are their strides in communication. Through dedicated efforts to enhance nursing communication, the team improved its HCAHPS percentile rank from the 42nd percentile in 2023 to the 99th percentile, averaging an impressive 85th percentile in 2024. This improvement not only reflects their commitment to providing high-quality service but also underscores the importance they place on effective communication as a cornerstone of patient-centered care. In every aspect of their work, the NSTU team lives out the value of service: providing the highest quality care in every dimension of their ministry. Their dedication, innovative practices, and unwavering compassion have made a tangible difference in the lives of patients, families, associates, and the broader community. The NSTU team is a model of collaboration and excellence, a team where every associate is motivated by God’s hope for the world, and where clinical excellence is delivered with a tender, compassionate touch.
