I was admitted with severe acute pain due to nerve impingement in my neck. I was blessed to have Nayley as my nurse for 5 nights. She was the epitome of being a “patient advocate”. She was always timely with medication administration and genuinely cared about the pain I was experiencing. When the meds I was receiving did not provide adequate relief, she was quick to contact the internist and made suggestions of additional meds to offer comfort. When the doctors were titrating my pain regimen to find adequate, yet non-oversedation, she offered suggestions to mitigate breakthrough pain. Additionally, she suggested some sleep medications due to my severe lack of sleep because of my pain levels. She never made me feel like I was inconveniencing her when I asked for her help and ideas. She was empathetic to me and my unexpected hospitalization. Quite frankly, she was a “perfect blend” of energy, humor, compassion, care, and an embrace of me and my individuality, just as a nurse should! She was a huge patient advocate with a sweet giggle, never willing to stop attempting to meet all of my needs. Behind her “sparkly and humorous” personality, she is a tenacious patient advocate and wonderful caregiver. I have been a registered nurse for over 30 years. Nayely is the embodiment of a genuine, kind caregiver. She was certainly appreciated during my stay and was an integral part of my return to health and home life!
