I had reconstructive knee surgery a few months before I was hospitalized, and I was still recovering with very limited mobility. Although the diagnosis that landed me in the ICU was a side effect of one of my medications, I am confident that my inactivity due to that surgery was a significant contributing factor. In addition, I was also struggling with a central sleep disorder, a back injury, and an infected puncture wound on the calf of my now "good" leg, which all made it very difficult to get comfortable and sleep. Nate clearly brings a lot of energy to work and doesn't hesitate to share it with anyone who needs his help. Quite literally, I lost count of how many times he proposed multiple solutions to a problem and then enthusiastically chose and carried out the option that would require the most work. His only concern was what was best for my comfort and treatment. When I couldn't get comfortable or sleep in the bed, he made up the recliner for me and provided pain relief for my back so that I could finally rest at night.

On another occasion, he saw that my knee and lack of movement were creating compounding problems, so he went well out of his way to get me a knee brace so I could walk around the unit and relieve the swelling and pain in my leg and hips. I ended up doing laps several times each day with my IVs and monitors, and it made all the difference in the world.

Please thank them again for me and let them know my condition has greatly improved, in no small part because of their efforts. I hope management takes good care of them because they are certainly taking great care of us.

Thank you, Nathaniel, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
