The care he took with her in this crisis was very appreciated and needed.
My mother came in with an altered mental status, very combative, refusing to cooperate or have a male nurse. My plan was to stay with her to help the team through the night and the morning. My mother also needed a sitter, which was not available at the time. Nathan was very caring and very patient with my mother. He showed empathy towards her and me. He began to understand that he would bring some female staff to start, and gradually talk with her and find common ground she could relate to. Once he found that with her, the relationship to assist her began. There was a breakthrough, and the connection helped her calm down. Nathan stayed with my mom and me until the sitter could come. The care he took with her in this crisis was very appreciated and needed. It is not too often you see nursing staff just stopping and looking at the patient and meeting them where they are, especially a 90-year-old female with AMS. Nathan exemplified what I call "I care" integrity, commitment, advocacy, respect, and excellence. He definitely went above and beyond his standard of duty. Thank you, respectfully, Marsha Lincoln
