My elderly mother was recently admitted to the RHH after a fall.  She was eventually moved to K10E. There were a number of staff who attended to mum over her seven-day stay. There was one Nurse in particular – Nat.

Nat was such a lovely young lady who made mum feel like nothing was ever a problem.  She chatted with both mum and me.  She always made her feel very important.   Nat always came in with a smile and an amazing attitude towards the patients – even when doing late shifts followed by an early shift.

The most important thing I noticed was that Nat was exceptional with my mother's Medications. Mum has Parkinson's and has time-specific medication.  Nat was meticulous with the administration of Mum's Madopar.  She was within minutes of the required time (very important), even when she was heading to break, she would make sure to administer the dose before she went.  She even did extra follow-ups (after her shift ended) with mum's discharge, due to us having to wait for blood results.  She made sure that we had everything we needed to discharge.

Mum was moved out of her room to another vacant room whilst we were waiting for discharge to be completed. A patient came in who needed isolation, and ours was the next room to be vacated. Afternoon shift came on and assumed that mum had been discharged as she was not in her official room, so we sat in a room waiting for someone to complete the discharge – no one really knowing who we were.  Nat noticed us as she was leaving. She then made phone calls to ensure all bloods were good, so I could finally take mum home.
