Natalie held my hand as I cried and somehow managed the miracle of making both myself and my husband feel relaxed enough in leaving our son so we could sleep on the first night.
Our son was born at 36+1 gestation, and he had breathing issues from birth. He was put on oxygen but couldn't maintain his sats so he was admitted to NICU. They did so much for him and it was terrifying to see, every parent's worst nightmare, one moment you are with your newborn, and the next they're in an incubator connected to so many tubes and wires. The day staff was lovely, but it's the nurse who came on for the night shift, Natalie, that really stood out to us. Her care of our son went above and beyond. He still has not yet been discharged, and she's been so excellent that I already want to recommend her for this award now. When I couldn't stay in the midwifery department any longer she went above and beyond to find us a bed so we could stay in the hospital with our son. She answered every single silly question I have ever had, she held my hand as I cried, and somehow managed the miracle of making both myself and my husband feel relaxed enough in leaving our son so we could sleep on the first night. She explained the breast pumps to me and covered every single base I might need. She also treated our son like he was her own, taking her utmost care to do everything for him and making sure she explained every step of what she was doing for us as we were both so anxious.
