Her changes are never made for the sake of change; they are carefully considered, evidence-informed decisions that reflect her deep understanding of both clinical best practices and the needs of the Veterans we serve.
It is with profound admiration and the utmost respect that I nominate Natalie Bell, Acting Nurse Manager, for the DAISY Award. While this recognition is traditionally associated with direct patient care, Natalie’s contributions extend far beyond the “bedside” — she is the foundational force that makes exceptional patient care possible for every member of our team. Natalie embodies the rare intersection of clinical expertise and transformational leadership. She does not simply manage a unit; she cultivates an environment where nurses feel valued, supported, and empowered to practice at the highest level of their profession. Her leadership philosophy is rooted in compassion, accountability, and an unwavering commitment to both staff well-being and patient outcomes. In doing so, she elevates the standard of care delivered every day.

What sets Natalie apart is her proactive and visionary approach to quality improvement. She has demonstrated a consistent ability to identify opportunities for change, both incremental and systemic, and to see those changes through with purpose and precision. From refining day-to-day workflows to implementing meaningful structural improvements within the clinic, Natalie has championed initiatives that have produced measurable, positive patient outcomes and consistently elevated patient satisfaction scores. Her changes are never made for the sake of change; they are carefully considered, evidence-informed decisions that reflect her deep understanding of both clinical best practices and the needs of the Veterans we serve. Central to these improvements has been Natalie’s commitment to equipping her staff with the tools, resources, and updated protocols necessary to deliver care at the highest standard. She ensures that her team has the proper support and infrastructure. By investing in the systems and resources that surround her staff, she removes barriers, builds confidence, and creates the conditions in which excellent care can consistently occur.

What further distinguishes Natalie is her ability to meet her team where they are — whether a nurse is navigating a complex clinical situation, experiencing personal hardship, or seeking professional growth, Natalie’s door is always open. Her staff does not merely report to her; they trust her. In an era where nursing burnout and workforce attrition present significant challenges to healthcare systems nationwide, Natalie stands as a stabilizing and inspiring presence. She fosters psychological safety, champions advocacy, and models the very integrity and resilience she expects of her team. The culture she has built is not accidental — it is the deliberate result of intentional, servant-centered leadership. Her insights are well respected by the team and leadership. Natalie Bell is not simply deserving of this recognition. She is the embodiment of what the DAISY Award represents: extraordinary care, delivered through extraordinary character.
