What made Nancy stick out the most was the continuity of care she provided 3 days in a row for him when he was first admitted and needed intense care.
I apologize for the delay in writing this nomination, it is on behalf of my father J and my siblings and I to recognize Nancy from the MICU. My father was a patient who quickly became ill and needed CVVH for a few days. He has made a good recovery since but still has some things he's receiving care for at Lahey, formerly a patient of another health system but has stayed because of the great care he received this admission.

My dad has never been sick enough to need surgery or be admitted to a hospital ever in his life, the last time he was near a hospital was when my siblings and I were born around 25 years ago. What made Nancy stick out the most was the continuity of care she provided 3 days in a row for him when he was first admitted and needed intense care. Additionally, her ability to explain my father's care to him, his girlfriend and my siblings in a way that they could understand being non-medical professionals. My father was so ill and barely present the first few days but he remembers how much Nancy cared for him and made him feel safe even with all the invasive and painful lines being placed and procedures done.

I also want to commend Nancy for her communication with me; she accepted my facetime calls while I was across the country and explained his labs and showed me how he was doing while he wasn't able to text or call me. I am also an employee of Lahey in critical care in the SICU. I can only imagine the extra pressure she must've felt taking care of a critical care colleague's family member. She was so warm and gracious and answered all my questions no matter how trivial to ease my anxieties while I could not be with him in person. She also was able to connect me with the attending in the MICU as well to get a plan of care updates.

I hope my father does not need ICU level of care again anytime soon but if he did, I would trust his life in Nancy's and the MICU's hands again. I am so glad I convinced him to get his care here and to have met Nancy along the way! She has the healing touch for patients and family members whether its physical or psychological, I hope she knows how valued she is!
