While providing physical care is part of a nurse’s role, Nancy went far beyond that. She made me feel truly seen, heard, and empowered during one of the most vulnerable experiences of my life.
I came into Labor and Delivery for induction of labor at 37 weeks due to cholestasis.

Throughout my admission, I was fortunate to have several incredible nurses. Nancy became my RN after another nurse had to hand me off due to other patient needs, and I truly believe it was exactly who I was meant to have in that moment. After more than 30 hours of labor—and being stalled at 3–4 cm for over 20 of those hours—I was physically exhausted, emotionally drained, and beginning to lose hope.

When Nancy checked me and told me the incredibly surprising news that I was fully dilated and ready to push, it felt unreal. At my previous check, not long before, I had made no progress at all. In that moment, Nancy shared my excitement and disbelief, and her calm confidence made me trust that what was happening was real and safe.

Even without the physician immediately present, she made me feel completely safe and cared for. She never made me feel rushed or uncertain—instead, she grounded me when I needed it most.

While providing physical care is part of a nurse’s role, Nancy went far beyond that. She made me feel truly seen, heard, and empowered during one of the most vulnerable experiences of my life. She had an incredible ability to make it feel as though I was her only patient, giving me her full attention and presence in a busy and intense environment.

When it was finally time to push, Nancy stayed by my side, talking me through each step with encouragement, patience, and unwavering support. She cheered me on, believed in me when I doubted myself, and helped me find the strength I didn’t know I had. Because of Nancy, my labor and delivery experience felt not only safe, but supported, empowering, and deeply human.

I will forever be grateful for the care, compassion, and reassurance she provided, and I will never forget the role she played in one of the most important days of my life.
