Nancy has taken her own life experience and uses it to ensure every one of her patients has a positive experience.
There is a patient who has been admitted a few times, who is terminal with cancer. This patient is fighting with everything she has to get more time on this earth. This patient is spanish speaking and some of the nurses in the hospital struggle with the cultural differences as they work in a small hospital in the middle of Nebraska.
Nancy takes it upon herself to try to educate the nursing staff so they can better understand this patient and her cultural needs. Nancy is bilingual and is able to communicate with this patient and her family, which is just an extra perk.
Nancy talked about how she remembered when her own mother was dying from cancer and how nurses would be dismissive or nonexistent. Nancy has used her past to try to go above and beyond for her patients. Sometimes that means finding alternative comfort measures, such as a back rub (rare in nursing today).
I think the most important thing that she does for her patients is that she is there with them in the moment. She will stop and give the patient her full and undivided attention, which is rare in this day and age. She has cried with patients and held their hands when their own family isn’t around.
For her young age, she is one of the kindest and compassionate nurses I’ve met. Nancy is refreshing healthcare with her hard work ethic, positive attitude, and personal experience with healthcare.
Nancy has relayed to her coworkers how she saw how not to be a nurse when she was a child, watching her mother struggle with an aggressive form of cancer. Nancy has taken her own life experience and uses it to ensure every one of her patients has a positive experience.
She will offer a back rub, she has a non-judging attitude, and she tries to ensure all of her patients experience a comfortable and quiet night while in a noisy hospital.
Nancy exemplifies all of the core values that fusion stands for. Nancy actually comes from a humble beginning, with her mother passing away when she was only 17 years old. Nancy has discussed how she has seen healthcare providers who aren’t caring or lack empathy. She is driven to become the best nurse she can be to make sure every patient has a positive experience.
