The next day, even on her day off, she came back to the hospital just to check on me and brought me homemade cookies.
When I think back on the day I delivered my first baby, one person stood out in a way I will never forget: Nan. I truly believe she was an angel sent by God to help me through one of the most vulnerable and overwhelming experiences of my life. From the moment she walked into my room, Nan radiated warmth, compassion, and reassurance. She took such intentional care in making sure I was physically comfortable, going above and beyond by arranging extra pillows and carefully placing them around me to ease my pain and discomfort. But beyond the physical care, it was her emotional support that touched me the most.
Before her shift ended, Nan took a moment to pray over me. That moment was so powerful and meaningful. I actually cried when she told me she was leaving because she had made me feel so safe and supported during a time when I needed it most. To my surprise, Nan didn’t stop caring for me just because her shift was over. The next day, even on her day off, she came back to the hospital just to check on me and brought me homemade cookies. That simple, thoughtful gesture meant the world to me and I was so grateful to introduce my daughter to the angel who helped me through my delivery.
Nan’s kindness, dedication and heart for her patients left an everlasting impact on me. She wasn’t just doing a job, she was living out a calling. I genuinely wish Nan could be there to deliver all my future babies because the comfort and peace she brought me during my deliver is something I will always carry with me. Nan is the true embodiment of what the DAISY Award represents and I cannot imagine anyone more deserving of this recognition. With endless gratitude,
