With unwavering dedication, Ma. Najla spent an entire month conducting daily training sessions for over 120 emergency department nurses.
I would like to nominate Ms. Najla Alshehri from General Nursing Administration as a recipient of The DAISY Award. This nurse’s clinical skill and especially her compassionate care exemplify the kind of nurse that our patients, their families, and our staff recognize as an outstanding role model as per the criteria.
During her time in our organization, Ms. Najla identified a critical gap in the Emergency Department’s (ED) ability to manage Patient-Controlled Analgesia (PCA) devices. She noticed that many ED nurses were unfamiliar with the device, which directly impacted patients experiencing severe pain, particularly those with Sickle Cell Anemia. These patients, who frequently visit the ED in distress, were often treated with Intravenous (IV) push narcotics, a method that carries significant risks, including over-sedation and respiratory depression. Recognizing the urgency of this issue, Ms. Najla took it upon herself to bridge this knowledge gap.
With unwavering dedication, Ma. Najla spent an entire month conducting daily training sessions for over 120 emergency department nurses. She ensured that each staff member gained confidence and expertise in PCA device usage, significantly enhancing their ability to provide safe, effective, and patient-centered pain management. Her training not only improved staff competence but also elevated the standard of care for our patients, reducing unnecessary risks and promoting a more controlled pain management approach.
Her selfless initiative, leadership, and compassion exemplify the core values of nursing. By proactively addressing a serious issue and dedicating herself to improving the knowledge and skills of her colleagues, she has positively impacted countless lives. Patients with Sickle Cell Anemia and other chronic pain conditions now receive safer and more effective pain relief, thanks to her tireless efforts.
For her exceptional commitment to patient safety, education, and nursing excellence, I totally nominate Ma. Najla Alshehri for the DAISY Award. Her actions represent the spirit of this honor, celebrating nurses who go above and beyond to make a difference in their patients' lives.
