September 2026 Honoree
Morgan Welts, RN
During my grandmother’s time in the ICU for severe heart complications, our family was living moment to moment. She ultimately required both a pacemaker and open-heart surgery, and there were times we didn’t know what the outcome would be. It was one of the most frightening and uncertain experiences of our lives.
Through it all, Morgan Welts was there. She wasn’t just a nurse caring for a patient; she became a source of comfort, stability, and strength for our entire family. She stayed by J’s side during critical moments, providing not only exceptional medical care but also a sense of calm that helped all of us breathe a little easier. Morgan treated us like we mattered. She took the time to explain everything, to answer our endless questions, and to make sure we felt included, even in such an overwhelming environment. She sat with us when we needed someone, talked with us like we were more than just a patient’s family, and brought warmth into a space that often felt heavy and uncertain.
What we will never forget is that even on days when J wasn’t her patient, Morgan still came to check on her—and on us. That kind of compassion can’t be taught. It’s who she is. Morgan didn’t just help save my grandmother’s life—she changed the experience for our entire family. Because of her, we felt seen, supported, and cared for during one of the hardest times we’ve ever faced.
To this day, we talk about Morgan at family holiday dinners and find ourselves wondering what that experience would have been like without her. We truly cannot imagine going through it without her by our side. Morgan was more than just a nurse to our family—she was a steady presence in the most uncertain and frightening time of our lives. While she provided exceptional clinical care to my grandmother in the ICU, what set her apart was the way she showed up for all of us as people. She offered comfort when we were scared, took the time to truly listen, and made us feel seen and valued in a setting that can often feel overwhelming and isolating. Morgan brought compassion, warmth, and humanity into every interaction, and because of her, we didn’t just feel cared for—we felt supported and never alone.
