. Sensing his disappointment, Morgan realized quickly that she needed to make his birthday as special as possible. She arranged for a full-size birthday cake, gathered a group to sing, and filled the room with warmth and cheer.
While sitting in the LCI stem cell transplant waiting room, a patient who had undergone a transplant shared his experience throughout this journey. He and his wife spoke with deep appreciation and admiration for all the dedicated and compassionate nurses on 4B and 4T; however, one nurse left a lasting impression on them, Morgan Bree.
Undergoing a transplant requires a lengthy hospitalization, and the journey is an emotional roller coaster ride, but having Morgan by their side, with her attentiveness and compassion, eased the process. The patient shared how thorough and conscientious she was, always advocating for his needs during his stay.
Extended hospital stays can be challenging, and patients long to be home, especially on special occasions like birthdays. This patient was so disheartened to be spending his birthday in the hospital rather than at home surrounded by loved ones. Sensing his disappointment, Morgan realized quickly that she needed to make his birthday as special as possible. She arranged for a full-size birthday cake, gathered a group to sing, and filled the room with warmth and cheer.
The patient and his wife expressed how authentic the experience was, and for a moment, forgot they were in the hospital. It felt as if they were home celebrating amongst family and friends. They shared with me how deeply touched they were by Morgan’s kindness and thoughtfulness.
Morgan wears many hats on the hematology oncology unit. As a high acuity nurse, she demonstrates critical thinking, quick decision-making, and exceptional clinical skills. In her leadership role as unit supervisor, she promotes quality care and sets an example for other nurses on the unit. She also serves as a preceptor, consistently guiding and providing support and attentiveness to the new graduate nurses.
Beyond all her responsibilities, Morgan goes the extra mile to make sure patients feel heard, valued, and cared for. She does this through having a genuine presence amongst her patients while practicing a transpersonal caring relation. She takes time to develop and sustain those loving, trusting-caring relationships by being fully engaged in the care of her patients. By creating a healing environment and sustaining those humanistic values, Morgan embodies the foundation of a true DAISY nurse.
