My wife, S, and I are both 80 years old and live in Hayward, Wisconsin. Traveling nearly an hour to Ashland for medical care – especially to see a gastroenterologist – is not easy for us. And, as you can imagine, no one is eager to talk about colonoscopies or the preparation that comes with them.

From the moment we arrived for our first consultation, we were met by a wonderful nurse named Morgan. After meeting with the doctor, we left with our procedure scheduled for over a month later. Throughout that time, we contacted Morgan many times through MyChart with questions and concerns. She always responded promptly, professionally, and – most importantly – with kindness and comfort.

There were moments that would make most people cringe: sending photos of what was in the toilet for the doctor to review. Yet Morgan never complained, never made us feel embarrassed, and never failed to support us. By the time everything was done, we realized we had reached out to her many, many times via MyChart and by phone, before the procedure, and several times afterward. Even though we only met her in person once, Morgan made us feel as if she were a true friend to our family. Her compassion, wisdom, calm reassurance, and exceptional communication carried us through an experience no one looks forward to.
