Monica fosters a positive and supportive environment where her nursing staff feel valued. It is no surprise the CDU has the lowest vacancy rate in the hospital.
It is with my deepest respect and gratitude that I nominate Monica Hansen for the DAISY Nurse Leader Award. Monica has consistently demonstrated excellence in her role as Manager of the CDU. Her change management skills have really showcased her abilities to quickly interpret new information and understand the “why.”
Monica utilizes effective communication strategies combined with an empathetic presence that allows her to remain approachable and keep the CDU team abreast of upcoming changes. Monica has also become a source of truth for the entire leadership team as we navigate through the JV.

Most of all, Monica is a team player and holds her team accountable to embodying the same selfless behavior she demonstrates. On her own unit, Monica is known to jump in and help without being asked. She ensures her team is prepared with working equipment and fosters shared decision making through shared governance.
When the ER’s back is against the wall and the inpatient holds are stacking up, CDU steps up and overflows the admissions. When the ER is short-staffed, the CDU team jumps in to help whenever they can.
For these reasons and more, I enthusiastically recommend Monica Hansen for the DAISY Nurse Leader Award for her outstanding leadership, compassion, and unwavering commitment to excellence in nursing.
