September 2026 Honoree
Molly Walker, RN
Our son was admitted to BBI for nearly three weeks with catatonia. After being home for only a couple of weeks, he began showing signs of cardiac and perfusion issues. He was readmitted to the hospital, and we watched as many of his body systems began to show signs of dysfunction.
During this admission, we were incredibly fortunate to have Molly Walker as our son’s night nurse on several occasions. Molly cared for him, and for us, with extraordinary compassion during one of the most stressful and uncertain times. As parents, we were terrified watching him develop new and concerning symptoms without a clear understanding of what was happening. Throughout the experience, Molly was attentive, calm, and compassionate. Most importantly, she validated our concerns and made us feel heard, respected, and supported.
One night, our son developed new and alarming changes in his vital signs. We were uncomfortable with the “wait and watch” approach initially suggested by the team, and Molly advocated strongly and effectively to ensure our concerns were heard, investigated, and addressed. Her willingness to listen and speak up on behalf of both her patient and his family made an enormous difference in our experience.
One of the hardest parts of having a child in the hospital is knowing when and how to advocate appropriately. Fear, anxiety, exhaustion, and sleep deprivation can make it incredibly difficult to know when to push harder and when to trust the process. Molly took that burden completely off my shoulders. She heard my concerns and took it from there.
Beyond her advocacy, Molly used her exceptional clinical knowledge and judgment to monitor him closely throughout the night. Knowing she was watching him so carefully allowed me to finally rest a little easier in the middle of an overwhelming situation. Molly embodies everything a nurse should be. She is clinically skilled, compassionate, attentive, and a fierce advocate for her patients and families. We are deeply grateful for the care she provided our son and our family.
