Molly kindly and professionally made it a priority to have the patient's bladder scanned, and the result was shocking.
A Comfort Care patient was on the Medical Unit and was assigned to Molly. Day Shift staff reported the patient had incontinence and refused catheter placement. Throughout the evening, the patient experienced more incontinence but was quiet and didn't complain at all about discomfort or pain. Molly really focused on the patient and took the time to go over her records, be with the patient, and assess the situation. She asked for the patient to be bladder scanned by the PCA. The PCA was a little shocked because the staff had already cleaned up the bedding multiple times and knew voiding was happening. Molly kindly and professionally made it a priority to have the patient's bladder scanned, and the result was shocking. The female patient, who was small in stature, had over 1279 mL of urine retained in her bladder. Immediately, Molly calmly talked with the patient, and catheter usage was permitted, providing the patient with instant relief. I am so grateful Molly took the time to look at the situation with such focus during a busy shift and to prevent such a serious situation from occurring.
