As this was stressful for all those involved, Molly displayed compassion, professionalism, and a calm approach.
Molly Mannion is one of those nurses who makes a difference every day she works. She exemplifies what nursing is all about. She truly is the "art and science of nursing".
Molly is always patient-focused. Molly organized a pizza party at work for a patient who was on 4 East for several months. It was amazing to see how much better the patient felt, and I have no doubt that the patient's day and stay were so much better. I cannot help but think what message does this send to the patient's family? "You are cared for just like family."
For another long-term patient, Molly organized a ZOOM meeting so that the patient could see and ask questions to the facility that she was going to. This is an innovative approach that we, as a health care institution, should employ with many of our patients. Clearly, Molly can take a "think out of the box" approach and meet patients' needs in many ways.
My favorite story of all is how Molly had an UBER pick up makeup for another long-term patient. This patient on 4 East loved putting on makeup as she wheelchaired around the unit. Once again, Molly shows how she connects with patients and shows them that they are valued as human beings.
Just recently, Molly cared for a patient who needed to be restrained for treatment. This particular patient had to be restrained in 4 points, tied down, sweatshirt cut off, IV placed, and medications administered. As this was stressful for all those involved, Molly displayed compassion, professionalism, and a calm approach. Even in difficult situations, as this was, Molly was able to convey respect and was able to show the patient that he was being listened to and things would be okay.
I have seen Molly work with student nurses and how she displays great knowledge and the right amount of nurturing. She is a role model for everyone.
Molly is the first person who organizes support (financial, birthday parties, acknowledgements of loss of a love one) when coworkers are in need.
I know that the nursing field has a strong future, and is in good hands with a nurse like Molly Mannion.
