Mitra Mollazadeh, BSN, RN, SCRN
We are honored to nominate Mitra, RN, for the DAISY Award in recognition of her extraordinary compassion, advocacy, and dedication to patient-centered care. Mitra exemplified the very heart of nursing by helping fulfill one of her patient’s most meaningful final wishes during an incredibly difficult and vulnerable time.
Her patient, who has a terminal neurological diagnosis with a limited life expectancy, expressed a desire to marry his partner. Mitra took initiative and ownership to make this wish a reality. She coordinated closely with social workers, contacted the county courthouse, secured the atrium, and communicated with family members to ensure the wedding could take place smoothly and with dignity.
Mitra’s care extended far beyond logistics. She thoughtfully helped record the ceremony so the family would have lasting memories and was deeply attentive to the emotional well-being of the patient’s children, ensuring they were supported, included, and cared for throughout the day.
She also collaborated with Venus to help the patient get dressed for the ceremony, including a dress blazer, allowing him to feel confident, dignified, and fully present for this once-in-a-lifetime moment.
Mitra’s actions went above and beyond her role as a nurse. She recognized the profound importance of love, connection, and legacy, and she ensured those values were honored. She was exactly the nurse this patient and family needed, and her compassion created an unforgettable impact.
