Millie is a band 6 team leader who manages a core team of children in the community who require long-term ventilation via a tracheostomy. One of Millie's patients had a planned decannulation of his tracheostomy, which was completed within the home setting instead of in the hospital. Due to the patient's needs, completing the decannulation in the hospital wasn't in the patient's best interest, which would ultimately delay his tracheostomy being removed.

Millie coordinated MDTs, liaised with the relevant Integrated Care Board, and completed an MS TEAMS for his care team to ensure everyone was up to date with the plans for decannulation. The decannulation went successfully, and for the first time in 12 years, the patient no longer has a tracheostomy.

After speaking to the parents, they have commented on the following. Millie has been so amazing through this whole process. We talked at great length about the decan of our son's tracheostomy. We have been with complex care for the past 12 years.
