Amelia did not treat him as a subject, but as a soul.
My grandson was ill on this day due to a fever of unknown origin. He suffered a complex febrile seizure at home and was unresponsive until EMTs administered medication. He was then transported via ambulance and by Life Flight helicopter. Upon arrival, Amelia (Millie) quickly assessed him and queried me on his condition. His physical and emotional state was very dire and traumatic due to his illness and disabilities that included nonverbal autism, a heart condition, and six chromosomal inversions.

He is extremely demanding and sometimes has difficulty complying, even with caregivers. Amelia recognized that his situation, condition, and state required medical technical protocols that were necessary as well as invasive. She used compassionate care and gentle strength to manipulate his body for care. Her quick and gentle touch allowed his pain to be minimal so that he could endure the procedures needed.

Amelia did not treat him as a subject, but as a soul. She provided diapers, wipes, and necessary medications in an angelic manner. She no doubt will continue to represent Providence as an astute medical caregiver with a loving spirit. This is why we chose Providence: not only because it is considered Alaska's premier flagship medical institution, but also because of the level of compassionate care we received!
