She reinforced my much-needed encouragement with words like "you are doing a great job" or "you are a champ."
Mikayla is an amazing nurse. Our baby girl was delivered earlier than we had hoped due to gestational hypertension and being breech at 37 weeks. This nurse was a cheerleader as she constantly encouraged me and my husband. c This nurse displayed many qualities anyone would want in a nurse, including being compassionate towards me, her professional and emotional knowledge in her field, and also displayed many instances of teamwork, clinical expertise, and professional collaboration.

There was one instance that would fall into all three categories that stood out, and that is her knowledge of breastfeeding and her interactions with the lactation consultant. The lactation consultant even told the patient that the nurse would be stopping in to make sure that the patient did not have any additional questions. The nurse did stop in and answered every question the patient had, and not once did the nurse make the patient feel that she was inconveniencing her or asking a silly question. The nurse celebrated the patient's success, reinforcing the patient's ability to use the breast pump, which really contributed to the patient's success!
