Miguel wasn‘t just a nurse; he was an Angel. He managed to give my grandfather in his final hours the same care my grandfather gave to everyone else his entire 92 years.
Miguel brought next-level care to my grandfather and family during the last few hours we had before he passed. My Grandfather was a very honorable man. He never thought twice about helping another person. He was the type of man to make sure everyone was loved. Even at 92, he was helping another family member cut their yard.
I mention this to explain how beautifully Miguel mirrored this same level of care for not only my Grandfather but also my family. Although my grandfather was 92, it was not an expected death. Miguel carried a calming sense of understanding and treated my grandfather with dignity. Miguel is undoubtedly a physically strong man, yet he handled everything with such softness and grace. He spoke to everyone with an honorable tone from his heart.
As I held my grandfather‘s hand while he was transitioning, I was watching the breath change. I‘m a certified Breathworker and saw the immediate change in breath. Miguel quietly talked to me about agonal breathing. My family was weeping, but he saw my curiosity, and we discussed it a bit. It wasn’t long after that that my grandfather had fully let go.
My family was so touched by Miguel and the rest of the ICU staff that they had to thank them in my grandfather‘s obituary. It takes someone very special to do the type of work that is done day to day at a hospital. I know that is true. I also know that the most perfect people show up in the most trying times, and whatever led Miguel to be the Angel for my family that day, I am grateful.
Every moment that allowed him to be the one present for my family that day made a world of difference. Miguel wasn‘t just a nurse; he was an Angel. He managed to give my grandfather in his final hours the same care my grandfather gave to everyone else his entire 92 years.
Thank you, Miguel. We won‘t ever forget you. May your dark days be filled with the light you carry within your heart. May you never forget your purpose and may you always know how truly extraordinary you are.
