Michi has always gone above and beyond to ensure that every patient receives the highest level of care and staff feel supported in the work that they do.
Since joining our team at MLKCH in 2019, Michi has consistently demonstrated exceptional clinical expertise, compassion, and a tireless dedication to improving the lives of patients. Whether working as a house supervisor ensuring the hospital is staffed and safe, assisting new nurses navigate patient experience, or lending a listening ear to those who need her nursing wisdom, Michi has always gone above and beyond to ensure that every patient receives the highest level of care and staff feel supported in the work that they do.

One standout example of Michi’s impact occurred when she helped a multi-disciplinary team to help a discharged patient with ongoing clinical needs. While many would have been frustrated by this situation outside their normal scope of duties, Michi took the challenge in stride. She helped to guide the case management team through the transport process of sending a nurse to the patient’s home while volunteering to communicate with the family to ensure they felt safe and cared for even after leaving the hospital. She assisted physicians in addressing barriers to outpatient appointments, helped nurses navigate patient care needs, and assisted this patient in obtaining their home devices and medical supplies so they could continue to heal. Much of what she did is outside the daily role of a house supervisor, but Michi always goes above and beyond in meeting patient, family and staff needs. Her ability to guide and lead the teams in this case led to both positive patient outcomes as well as a positive experience for the patient and a wonderful learning opportunity for the staff involved.

In addition to her clinical skills, Michi is a true team player, always willing to lend a hand to colleagues and offer guidance to new nurses. Her leadership is evident not only in her actions but also in her mentorship, where she has helped create an environment of learning and support for others. Michi has also taken part in ongoing professional development, including participation in several house wide committees such as Peer Review Committee and has been a leader at the forefront of house wide changes such as bed management.

It is with great pleasure that I nominate Michi for the DAISY Award. Her dedication to the nursing profession and the well-being of our patients truly embodies the qualities of excellence in nursing that this award represents.
