It is my pleasure to nominate Michelle Raynor for the DAISY Nurse Leader Award. I have worked with Michelle for a little over two years now, and in that time, I have realized just how much she gives of herself, not only to improving systems for the delivery of quality care to patients, but also to her staff for their continued growth and success.
Michelle's charge is vast. Despite overseeing a plethora of staff and managing multiple office locations, Michelle always makes it a point to be present at my Friendship Heights office. She makes me feel like I am the only manager she supports and my office is the only location she oversees, even though I know that this is far from the truth. From rolling up her sleeves and providing direct patient care when I have been short-staffed, to always making herself available for questions and help, even during her days off, Michelle has shown me her commitment to her team and to the organization’s success.
As a leader, Michelle demands the best from her team by setting very high standards. Some may see this as an attempt at perfection or needless work when it is enough to do the minimum necessary to help everyone set goals. For Michelle, it is about reaching our full potential to achieve excellence in all that we do, because this has a cascading effect and a positive influence on the people with whom we work and the systems we implement daily. This ultimately translates to a safer work environment, the delivery of quality care, and increased patient satisfaction. Michelle is a true nursing professional whose devotion is most admirable. Apart from her wisdom and leadership prowess, Michelle is truly a wonderful human being I have the pleasure of calling my friend. It is my hope that I can emulate her in this and any other future positions I may hold. She truly represents the values of compassion, commitment, and connection. In my humble opinion, no one is more deserving of this recognition than Michelle.
