Note - all of our patients are court-ordered for treatment, and we very rarely get positive feedback from patients. Consequently, this year, all nominations were from staff/coworkers.

Michelle was nominated by three coworkers - one was last year's DAISY honoree. Comments included:

We have a patient who refuses his medications. She sits with him, talks softly, and encourages him to take his medications rather than just marking 'refused.' She reassures him when he has negative thoughts about himself. She offers water from the medication room [when he is paranoid and thinks the water is poisoned].

She is so patient and kind with all of her patients. She is always approachable with a smile for patients and staff. It doesn't matter if you are the supervisor or housekeeper; she treats them all the same.

Michelle demonstrates compassionate care daily in her work. Specifically, with a specific patient. Michelle knows how to balance nurturing with professionalism towards them, even during their most volatile and vulnerable times. The patient recognizes this and returns to a trusting demeanor with Michelle daily. It's wonderful to work with someone who consistently cares for this patient.
