Michelle Porter has been an incredible blessing to the Surgical Services team since day one. Her “can-do” attitude, unparalleled work ethic, and strong knowledge of the nursing profession and leadership have been a great guide to all staff.

She selflessly came in early for months to support the Pre-op and Post-op teams when they were short-staffed. She jumped into action whenever the OR needed extra hands or lunch break coverage. She is always there whenever staff need to vent, need a few extra hours of time off, or need a small, sweet snack for a pick-me-up. She even provides staff breakfasts, lunches, or treats out of her own pocket to show her appreciation.

Ever since she took on the role, she has filled all the staffing gaps. She produces staffing schedules nearly three months in advance, allowing staff to better balance their social lives and work lives.

But above everything she does, she always has the best intentions at heart for her staff and her patients. She is never afraid to advocate for the best outcomes for both. She completes her tasks in a timely manner so the department can continue running efficiently. She communicates clear expectations and promotes a positive work environment.

Our staff turnover is at a minimum, and morale has significantly improved. We all know that if she is around, she will never let anyone struggle alone. She will come in early or stay late and work side by side with her team.

She is the glowing symbol of what it means to lead by example. As Surgical Services, we could not have asked for a better manager.
