From the minute my mom met Michelle, she completely put her at ease.
My mom has had almost 20 surgeries in the past 15 years. Unfortunately, many of those surgeries were to correct or treat complications from previous surgeries or the side effects of radiation on her other organs. Needless to say, my mom was very hesitant and nervous to have her most recent surgery to remove a neuroendocrine mass and resect part of the small bowel. From the minute my mom met Michelle, she completely put her at ease. Not only is Michelle extremely knowledgeable and an excellent nurse, but Michelle went beyond patient care to get to know the patient. Michelle and my mom spoke about shared experiences, life lessons, and Michelle brought the humor back into my mom after she again experienced complications and setbacks with this surgery. Michelle kept my mom’s spirits high, and she looked forward to seeing Michelle on the days during her 13-day hospital stay when Michelle was on the floor. Michelle got to know me and my brother as well, and she absolutely put me at ease knowing that my mom had someone who was not only professionally in her corner, but personally as well. In addition, I was able to witness Michelle serve as an excellent mentor and teacher to the various student nurses who worked with her during her shift. Michelle was patient and knowledgeable, and it was evident that she gave the students confidence to gain hands-on experience. Michelle kept the mood light, the jokes and smiles flowing, and most of all, gave my mom the best care a daughter could ask for. Michelle was truly a blessing during my mom’s hospital stay.
