I felt so seen despite thinking I wanted to be invisible. I will never forget her hugs.
MJ was the nurse when my stepmom and I learned that my dad’s life was coming to an end. She became a beacon of comfort and kindness during our time on 3500, and we quickly looked forward to her returns to work. Her years of experience really showed in the way that she treated my dad, but especially in the consideration that she always gave us. She requested to stay on as a primary nurse for my dad, which provided excellent continuity of care. She devoted so much time to our family-explaining, assessing, listening, and even laughing with us. MJ’s genuine compassion made an excruciating time a bit less painful. Despite many family members being involved, MJ personalized her interactions with me as one bereaved daughter to another grieving daughter. I felt so seen despite thinking I wanted to be invisible. I will never forget her hugs. It would be such an oversight not to also highlight that she took excellent care of my dad and treated him like the special individual that he was. As a fellow nurse, I was inspired by MJ in so many ways.
