You were there for me on what will probably remain the hardest and worst day of my life, and your warmth and acceptance will stay with me forever.
Michelle received the following card from a patient she cared for who had made a difficult decision to terminate a pregnancy after screening tests. I believe she deserves a DAISY Award for the exceptional care she provided to this patient.
Michelle, I thank you so much for your care and kindness the day that I was in to say goodbye to my sweet son. Your energy was so healing and authentic; you made me feel truly cared for. You also approached me without judgment, which was so meaningful, as I know this decision is often strongly misunderstood and judged, but you understood how loved he is and that this was, and will always be, the hardest decision I have ever made.
You were there for me on what will probably remain the hardest and worst day of my life, and your warmth and acceptance will stay with me forever. Being in your presence felt like a warm hug. Being part of a termination places a heavy burden on those who are a part of the process, and it can't be without its own hardships and traumas. You have to be one of the strongest people out there to be there on someone's worst day and still approach them with sympathy while also dealing with the emotional toll of having to be not only a nurse but a therapist and a friend to someone you've never met.
I want you to know that the entire care team during my stay was so exceptional that it has inspired me to pursue nursing and apply for nursing school. You all will forever be my personal heroes and professional role models. Thank you. I will truly remember you and your kindness for the rest of my life.
