All of a sudden, Michelle walks in and lets me know she’s going to be his nurse once he’s settled in his new room, and without batting an eye, she takes all of the baggage that needs to be moved to his new room.
Although all of the nurses who helped our son during his NICU stay were wonderful, Michelle stood out and went above and beyond. A few days into his stay, it was the first time Michelle was his nurse; she noticed his breathing pattern was consistent with one that would respond well to caffeine treatment. During rounds that day, the neonatologist went through the risks and benefits of using the drug, and we ultimately decided to use it. He responded very well to it, and we are grateful for Michelle’s recommendation, as his improvement was very slow with just oxygen therapy. Michelle not only took wonderful care of our son, but also made sure my husband and I were okay, even helped make us laugh a few times in an otherwise stressful environment.

Even when she was the charge nurse, she would check on my son and check to see how we were doing. We always knew it would be a good day when we saw that Michelle was working. One day, when I was visiting the NICU by myself, two nurses came in to say we were moving him to the other NICU and that we needed to have everything packed up and ready to move in half an hour. I started to worry since we had a lot of stuff in the room, and I was still on lifting restrictions 2 weeks post-C-section. All of a sudden, Michelle walks in and lets me know she’s going to be his nurse once he’s settled in his new room, and without batting an eye, she takes all of the baggage that needs to be moved to his new room. We are so grateful for Michelle and her expertise and compassion that she brings to the nursing field.
