She was simultaneously involved in my emotions, learning, and patience. Watching her work was terrific, and I aspire to be as loving and compassionate as she is.
My experience as a new grad with this preceptor was terrific. My preceptor stood out because she was patient, uplifting, and empathetic. It’s so easy to have impostor syndrome as a new grad. My preceptor gave me confidence throughout my shift and always kept me by her side. We had a patient who coded and, in the end, expired. My preceptor did not get overwhelmed with the critical care and did not just push me to the side or hand me off to someone else. She was verbal in everything that she did and made sure to explain every action. When we called a code for our patient, she was actively involved in the code and checked in with me to ensure I moved to different roles. When the patient expired, she debriefed with me alone before we debriefed as a group. She was simultaneously involved in my emotions, learning, and patience. Watching her work was terrific, and I aspire to be as loving and compassionate as she is. At the end of the shift, we reviewed everything I learned and everything I needed to practice. I only had her for one shift, which was the best experience thus far. Thank you, Michelle!
