Michele Syler, RN, CMSRN
I would like to recognize Michele Syler for the exceptional compassion and kindness she showed to one of her patients.
This gentleman was going through an incredibly difficult time in his life. He was experiencing homelessness and had very few personal belongings, lacking basic necessities. One of his greatest challenges was finding shoes that fit, as he wore an uncommon size 15 wide.
Rather than simply recognizing the need, Michele took it upon herself to find a solution. She searched online until she found a pair of sneakers in his size and had them delivered to BHC before his discharge.
As he prepared to leave the facility, he proudly put on his brand-new shoes. The smile on his face and the gratitude he expressed spoke volumes. Michele’s thoughtful act gave him more than a pair of shoes—it restored a sense of dignity, comfort, and hope during a very difficult chapter of his life.
Michele consistently demonstrates the compassion, empathy, and patient-centered care that the DAISY Award represents. Her willingness to go above and beyond made a lasting difference for this patient. She is truly deserving of this recognition.
